𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 is not realizing sooner that project management is a 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭. Notice I said project management and not time management.
😲 I used to think that it’s only something project managers do 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠.
🗣 Just like there’s a difference between cooking bland food that’s still edible and making a really tasteful meal, there’s actually a big difference between getting all your work done and then barely having any time or energy afterwards, and getting things done with extra time to kill.
🧐 It occurred to me that many of us think we need to learn to manage our time better but what might be more effective is understanding that every aspect of our lives can be considered a project. Time is just the space you have to execute the needs of your various projects. When these needs are identified you can create a strategy to assign specific tasks to your time. I used to think that I needed to get better at time management when in reality I needed to get better at project management (planning, executing, monitoring).
😎 That’s why some people get complex assignments done super quickly - they learned how to break big tasks into smaller, more manageable, pieces. Often we think we know how to do that but don’t so we end up delaying big assignments and thinking we’re lazy. We actually just lack clarity because we’ve never learned or mastered this important skill.
🔥 BUT the good thing about skills is that they can be learned! If you feel you’re lacking in this area I recommend watching YouTube videos on the topic and setting time aside to learn project management!
